Errant pun turns tragically ironic for Knennedy campaign

Responding to reports of the entry of Paul Hollis into the Republican primary for US Senate, the John kNeely Knennedy campaign is quoted in the Washington DC publication Roll Call calling Hollis a “token” candidate. But beyond this obvious effort to make fun of Hollis’s occupation as a numismatist (or coin dealer to you and me) the Knennedy campaign has opened up a rather legitimate question.

If Hollis is, in fact, a “token” candidate what sort of token is he?

The fact that Knennedy switched parties just last August after a political lifetime of running for various and sundry offices as a Democrat, has been identified as a liberal Democrat and even endorsed John Kerry in 2004 gives us an idea.

Maybe Hollis is the token Republican!

It is indeed unfortunate for John that the Louisiana GOP has to endure a token Republican in its Senate primary. And it’s even more unfortunate that Knennedy has to tolerate someone who has a far stronger case to make as the GOP’s “change” candidate.
